(Poem) “My Turn To Remember You”
“My Turn To Remember You” by Poetry Cue
The underground railroad you chose, refusing to be sold.
Still to this day your story is still told.. A little woman with the heart of a giant in tow.. your legacy is within your heart of gold.. Even though you escaped you remembered to remember. Fighting to bring us all to freedom you put your own fear on hold. So much compassion is always given to the bold.. In you I learned the empathy of a fight.
To fight because another’s bondage is a bruise on your soul.. To fight to give another a chance at building their own story to be told. O my my the strength in your pose..
Through the fright of day and night bringing another and another to freedom in the new day once again, you rose.
When the waters rose somehow you found strength to still go.. You suffered fainting spells due to injuries from the slavery imposed. but somehow through the pain you were connected so close to the God of Old. Harriet Tubman you are a woman to behold.
